After Daytona increase, ESPN's ratings dip for California race
ESPN2's telecast of the Stater Bros. 300 NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Auto Club Speedway on Feb. 20 earned a final national household coverage rating of 1.7, down from the 1.9 rating for last year’s race that also aired on ESPN2, the network said Tuesday.
The 2010 telecast averaged 2,282,563 viewers and was seen in an average of 1,716,372 households.
After two races, ESPN said its Nationwide Series coverage is averaging a 2.5 rating, an increase of 19 percent over last year's 2.1 average for two races.

Well, it WAS California. 1) It’s not the most exciting race, and 2) I know a ton of people who didn’t watch this weekends race because they’re all sick of “Danica Danica Danica.”

Just proves that CA doesn’t deserve to have 2 races. Can’t even sustain one, even with Danica.
I’m interested to see what the ratings are like after the LV race weekend. More people in the stands is more likely.

I agree with djjones. I’d also assume that the Olympics were a factor this year in terms of stealing away viewers. As for Krista’s comments, I know a lot of people who were burned out on the Danica hype, but all of whom still watched the race. I would say the ratings drop has more to do with the California track itself and its penchant for having not-so-exciting races (although Saturday’s finish was exciting).
