RCR's John Wes Townley goes to backup car after crash in Bristol practice

BRISTOL, Tenn. - John Wes Townely will go to a backup Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet after a crash in the first NASCAR Nationwide Series practice at Bristol Motor Speedway.

Townley got loose in Turn 4 and hit the outside wall with the right-rear of his No. 21 Chevrolet. A frustrated Townley could only watch as his crew took essential parts off the primary car. The backup was already undergoing inspection.

Two other drivers also spun during the session but were able to continue: Joe Gibbs Racing's Joey Logano (who led Sprint Cup practice earlier) and K Automotive Motorsports' Johnny Chapman.

Chapman also scraped the wall, but his crew - including Chapman himself - was working on making repairs.
