One day before her 102nd birthday, Nancy Sue Neal from Waxhaw, N.C., will serve as honorary race director for tonight's Dollar General 300 Miles of Courage. She will attend the NASCAR Nationwide Series drivers meeting, be introduced during pre-race activities and take a pace car lap around Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Neal was born in 1909 in Madison, N.C., and will celebrate her birthday on Oct. 15. She has been recognized by the American Cancer Society as the oldest living breast cancer survivor in North Carolina. Neal is a 57-year survivor after being diagnosed in 1954.
Neal currently lives with her daughter and sums up her battle with one simple thought:
"I might look like a road map, but I'm here, and I'm still alive," she said. "I can't believe that I am going to Charlotte Motor Speedway. I'm so excited to be a part of the race on Friday night, but what I really hope for is Dale Jr. to win the race on Saturday."
Neal has watched all three Earnhardt generations race.
