Carl Edwards is one of two full-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers entered in this weekend's Nationwide Series race at Iowa Speedway. Brad Keselowski is the other.
That begs the question: Why?
"The race track is just north of where I live," Edwards said. "I have a lot of friends in the Des Moines area. I am excited to go up there and be able to compete for the win. This race would be very special for me to win."
Edwards will compete in the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race at Charlotte Motor Speedway this Saturday and then fly to Iowa for the Iowa John Deere Dealers 250 Nationwide race. Edwards said he'll try to fly to Iowa for some practice, too.
"I think all the drivers would agree that this race has a really high energy level," Edwards said. "The fans are race savvy and they know racing up there in Iowa. I am going to do my best to go back and forth to get some practice in. If I can't, we will have Brian Ickler and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. there, and they have agreed to help me get my car set up."
Edwards is coming off a victory at Dover International Speedway last weekend.
"We will look to carry that momentum into Iowa," crew chief Mike Beam said. "Since Carl is also racing in the All-Star race in Charlotte this weekend, we will have Brian Ickler and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. to help us get Carl's Mustang set up for him. We look to get this Mustang back in victory lane for back-to-back wins."
