HAMPTON, Ga. - Carl Edwards picked up his 26th career NASCAR Nationwide Series pole with a lap of 179.452 mph in qualifying for the Great Clips 300.
Edwards was second fastest this morning in practice, putting in 24 laps in the first session - none in qualifying trim - before parking it.
"We said, ‘We like it, we're not gonna mess it up,' and hopefully that pays off (in tonight's race)," Edwards said. "Once this race starts, though, it's a long night of managing tires and managing the balance."
The bad news for Edwards' competitors? He says his No. 60 Fastenal Ford is fast and comfortable in race trim.
Even more bad news? Edwards used his Nationwide qualifying run to try a new line that may help him tonight in qualifying for the AdvoCare 500 Sprint Cup race.
"We'll see how it goes," Edwards said with a grin. "Hopefully it'll be another (pole)."
Those who did not qualify for tonight's Great Clips 300 were Brian Keselowski and Mike Harmon.
