Press release: Michael Annett nominated for Athlete of the Year award

Germain Racing

Des Moines, Iowa (January 19, 2010) – The Des Moines Area Sports Commission has announced the nominees for the first Central Iowa Sports Awards, and Des Moines native Michael Annett was honored by being chosen as a contender for the prestigious Athlete of the Year Award for excelling as a NASCAR driver in 2009.
Born and raised in America’s Heartland, Annett dreamed of a career as a professional athlete. The 23 year old started the route to his dream with ice hockey, but switched gears in 2005 and exchanged his ice skates for a steering wheel.
Since the young athlete’s change in career paths, Annett has quickly moved up the NASCAR ranks and is now in preparation for his second full season in the NASCAR Nationwide Series. Annett drives Germain Racing’s No. 15 Pilot Travel Centers Toyota Camry and concluded the 2009 NASCAR Nationwide Series season tenth in championship point standings.
"I’m extremely honored to represent Central Iowa each week throughout the NASCAR Nationwide Series circuit," said Annett, "being recognized by my home state for my accomplishments in the sport means a great deal to me. My roots in Iowa have helped me get to where I am today, and without those who have supported me from the start, I could have never made it to this level."
