FONTANA, Calif. - Braun Racing driver Brian Vickers paced the first NASCAR Nationwide Series practice at Auto Club Speeedway on Friday, going 177.725 mph in the No. 32 Toyota.
Vickers edged Roush Fenway Racing's Paul Menard by 0.084 seconds to lead the session. Menard went 177.357 in the No. 98 Ford.
Baker Curb Racing's Greg Biffle was third, with Braun's Jason Leffler fourth and Roush Fenway's Colin Braun fifth.
Independent Nationwide teams were first, third and fourth.
JR Motorsports' Danica Patrick was only 37th, nearly two seconds off Vickers' pace.
