CHINA GROVE, N.C. (April 20, 2010) – R3 Motorsports is continuing their charitable ways by aiding one of their own this time. This comes on the heels of the team donating the decklid space for their Texas car to a local charity, and just ahead of the lower quarter panel space being donated to another charity for the upcoming Richmond race.
Matt Smith, the team’s front tire changer and fabricator, broke his leg during a recent motorcycle outing. After surgery to install a rod in his leg and several days in the hospital, his road to recovery is under way.
However, with no insurance and two small children at home, the medical bills for Smith and his fiancée have been overwhelming. To aid their crew member, R3 Motorsports teamed with the Women’s Auxiliary of Motorsports to host a fundraiser on Wednesday, April 28 in Mooresville, N.C.
Being held at Big Al’s on Brawley School Rd. from 5 to 9 p.m., the event has a special "Matt’s Menu" and "Matt’s Meal" for the event. Big Al’s will donate 25 percent of the bill from that menu back to Matt and his family’s medical bills.
In addition to the menu, there will be auction items, 50/50 and pull tabs to help raise funds. The auction will feature autographed NASCAR items, gift certificates and gift cards from community business owners.
