Brawny Braun: Braun Racing puts 3 drivers in top 10 at Dover

By Lee Montgomery

DOVER, Del. – Even though Kasey Kahne was taken out in the lap-199 crash at Dover International Speedway, Braun Racing still had three drivers finish in the top 10 of the Heluva Good! 200 NASCAR Nationwide Series race.

Reed Sorenson ran in the top five most of the race and finished fourth, with Jason Leffler posting his second consecutive top-five finish in fifth and rookie Brian Scott in ninth.

Sorenson’s finish was his third top-five and fifth top-10 finish in seven races in the No. 32 he’s sharing with Brian Vickers. Still, he figures he could do better at Dover.

"We were running fifth the last 80 laps, so yeah, I thought we’d get pretty close to this," Sorenson said. "We just had a long day. We were really, really loose the whole day. The Dollar General team fought hard and we made adjustments to make it better. We just started off way too loose. We’ll learn from it and next time we come here we should be better."

Leffler darted through the late-race multi-car wreck to finish fifth, his second straight fifth-place finish with interim crew chief Trip Bruce.

"We had a 10-place car and the guys just did a good job and it worked out for us at the end," Leffler said. "It’s nice to have something go our way. It’s been a rough year. To come home with another top-five, I’m pretty pumped. … I’m happy the way the last few weeks have gone."

Leffler said the team isn’t in a hurry to hire a permanent replacement for Scott Zipadelli, who was removed as Leffler’s crew chief before the Darlington race.

"We’re still discussing it and seeing what the options are out there," Leffler said. "Luckily for me, my team is strong enough to keep it going and get it going to the track every week. Trip comes in and does practice, calls the race, and right now we’re just not in a real hurry to rush into anything."

Scott’s finish was his best of the season and his third top-10.

"The AccuDoc Solutions Toyota guys, they did an awesome job today," Scott said. "They did everything just right. I made one mistake on a two-tire stop where we were trying to get some track position and ended up losing a couple of spots. It wasn’t huge.

"We battled all day, just a good race car, a good battle all day, good racing. It was a lot of fun out there today. Things got crazy there at the end. It was fun to watch. We were in a good spot. We got a top-10 and got Raybestos Rookie of the Race. We’ll lick out wounds a little bit and go to the next race."
