DARLINGTON, S.C. – John Wes Townley remains as a Richard Childress Racing development driver, a spokesperson for the NASCAR Nationwide Series team said Friday at Darlington Raceway.
An Internet report said RCR had "parted ways" with Townley, who has sat out the last four races and isn't in the car this weekend at Darlington Raceway. Sprint Cup veteran Clint Bowyer took over for Townley at Phoenix and has driven the car since.
Team spokesperson Jackie Franzil said that while she didn't know the upcoming driver schedule for RCR’s No. 21 Chevrolet, she said Townley is still under contract as a development driver.
