Press release: Charitable initiatives surrounding recent race weekend at Nashville Superspeedway raise $72,668 for flood relief efforts in Middle Tennessee

Nashville Superspeedway

LEBANON, Tenn. – Through the contribution of generous race fans and a variety of corporate partners, $72,668 was raised to benefit flood relief efforts in Middle Tennessee during the June 4-5, 2010 NASCAR Nationwide Series race weekend at Nashville Superspeedway.

The Superspeedway, together with Grammy-nominated Warner Bros. recording artist John Rich, and representatives from Nationwide Insurance and Big Machine Records, presented a check for $66,160 on June 5 to Hands On Nashville, a volunteer agency assisting those affected most by the recent floods, and the Nashville chapter of the American Red Cross. The amount included funds raised through June 5 "Federated Auto Parts 300" race ticket sales and a five-day Nationwide Insurance- sponsored car wash held in Franklin, Tenn.

A Nashville Superspeedway-themed, Sam Bass-designed Gibson Les Paul guitar netted $4,250 in an online auction that ended on June 14. The guitar was autographed by June 5 race winner Brad Keselowski, race honorary starter John Rich, and Bass. Proceeds from the auction benefited Hands On Nashville.

The "Race Fest for Flood Relief" NASCAR Nationwide Series driver autograph session and silent auction raised $2,258 in monetary donations, in addition to 887 lbs. of canned food that was donated to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee. A similar online auction will begin in July 2010 on The NASCAR Foundation website, and a NASCAR Camping World Truck Series autograph session is planned for the Aug. 7, 2010 race at Nashville. More information will be available soon on NashvilleSuperspeedway.com.

"We’re proud that the June NASCAR race weekend in Nashville could be used as a platform to support the ongoing flood relief efforts in Middle Tennessee," said Cliff Hawks, vice president and general manager of Nashville Superspeedway. "NASCAR fans in the region and a variety of special partners came together to make this contribution possible and we thank them for their extraordinaire efforts."

NASCAR returns to Nashville Superspeedway on Aug. 7, 2010 with the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. For more information, or to purchase tickets, call 1-866-RACE-TIX or visit NashvilleSuperspeedway.com.
