Press release: RAB rallies to first NASCAR Nationwide Series victory in Montreal

RAB Racing

CONCORD, N.C. -– RAB Racing with Brack Maggard recorded its first NASCAR Nationwide Series win on Sunday at historic Circuit Gilles Villeneuve after road course specialist Boris Said held off the competition to take the checkered flag by only 0.012 of a second. The win was also a first for Said in a stock car after 22 starts in NASCAR’s second division.

Taking the green flag from the fifth starting spot, Said kept the No. 09 Zaxby’s/Performance Friction Ford Fusion at the front of the field by racing smart and using his road course skills to stay out of trouble early in the race. Continuing to run a clean race over the scheduled 74-lap event, Said lined up second after a red flag stopped the field, setting up a green-white-checkered finish.

On the last restart, Said took the lead and quickly put several car lengths between the No. 09 and the rest of the field. Before Said could take a breath, fellow road course racer Max Papis edged Said to get out front. Coming around the last chicane in second place, Said and Papis battled, going side by side down the final stretch. With one last push, Said powered ahead, taking first place and scoring the win in dramatic fashion in one of the closest wins on a road course in NASCAR Nationwide Series history.

"“Finally,"” exclaimed Said, “"I’ve been trying to do this for 22 races and to finally get a win in the NASCAR Nationwide Series is a big deal. For the three of us, for (team owner) Robby (Benton), Scott Zippadelli and myself, it’s a really good thing. I just want to say thank you to Zaxby’s for their support, and to Performance Friction Brakes. I’ve been working with Performance Friction for over 20 years and this is the toughest track in the world on brakes and they gave us the best product. I can’t say thank you enough to everyone for their support.”"

The win also marks the first trip to victory lane for RAB Racing sponsor, Zaxby’s, after several years of competing in motorsports.

"“We were thrilled to see the No. 09 Zaxby’s car in victory lane on Sunday,”" said Molly Huff, Director of Marketing for Zaxby’s Franchising Inc. “"RAB Racing did an outstanding job and the win has sent a wave of excitement and pride throughout our entire organization and fan base.”"

For RAB Racing, the win marks a step forward in a season filled with ups and downs after over six years competing in both the ARCA and Nationwide levels.

“"Montreal was huge for our team,"” Benton said. "“It validates our existence as a NASCAR Nationwide Series team and adds an unbelievable amount of value to our program. The Nationwide Series is a very tough series, and just to be able to say that we have won a race at this level of competition is an amazing accomplishment. A win like this, a win this big, injects a lot of energy and confidence at a time when we really needed it.

"Moving forward, we want to build on this win and continue to make strides to enhance the entire RAB Racing program. I’'d also like to say thanks to Zaxby’s, Performance Friction Brakes and Roush Yates Engines. We wouldn’t be here without their help and support.”"

Next up, RAB Racing heads south to Atlanta Motor Speedway with John Wes Townley back behind the wheel. The No. 09 Ford Fusion will be featuring a special paint scheme in Saturday’s Great Clips 300 to help celebrate Zaxby’s 20th year in business.
