Trevor Bayne didn't stay unemployed long.
The 19-year-old NASCAR Nationwide Series driver signed with Roush Fenway Racing and will drive the No. 17 Ford in this weekend's race at Kansas Speedway.
Bayne, who is seventh in the Nationwide standings, was released by Diamond-Waltrip Racing earlier this week.
"We are pleased to be able to sign a driver of both Trevor’s caliber and character," team co-owner Jack Roush said in a press release. "Trevor has exhibited a distinctive ability to run fast, up front and compete side-by-side with veteran drivers in a relatively short amount of time. We feel that he possesses all of the tools necessary to grow into a top-level driver and we look forward to working with him to hone his skills as we move forward down the road."
Roush Fenway said it intends to run Bayne in the remaining six races on the Nationwide schedule.
"I am just really excited to have the opportunity to drive," said Bayne. "We are looking forward to a great relationship with Roush Fenway, and I’m eager to go racing with Jack Roush and everyone at the organization. I can’t wait to get everything started this weekend in Kansas."
Bayne has five top-five and 10 top-10 finishes this season, winning three poles.
